The Blues, who have hit both Southampton and Shakhtar Donetsk for six in the past seven days, have been even more devastating than they were last season in recent weeks, but Pep Guardiola saw fit to reiterate in his pre-match press conference on Friday that there will be no room for let-up against Jose Mourinho's side. "I would like to play the same game as last season when we played top for 75 minutes but United showed us that they just need 10 or 15 minutes to create a chance," the City boss said, with reference to the Blues' surrendering of a two-goal lead in the 3-2 home defeat against United back in April. It will be interesting to see quite how the lessons learnt from that April day will be translated into Guardiola's team selection for the 177th Manchester Derby, but what is for sure is that Ederson, Guardiola's quarter-back of a goalkeeper, will start between the sticks as the Blues look to ensure their slim tally of four goals conceded this season does not rise.

Ahead of the Brazilian, the pairing of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte - who former City captain Richard Dunne deemed as having the potential to become the best in Premier League history this week - should start, with Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy more than likely to occupy the full-back positions as the Blues look to keep a lid on United's greatest threat, Anthony Martial. Fernandinho, who has belied his 33 years to play in all but two of City's 18 fixtures so far this campaign, is a guaranteed starter at the base of a midfield that could feature Derby veteran David Silva and his pretender Bernardo. Perhaps one plan of attack for the Blues will be to examine the pace possessed Ashley Young, United's right-back, and Raheem Sterling - who signed a three-year contract extension this week - might be best-equipped at present to get some joy from doing so. Man City's Aymeric Laporte on his blossoming partnership with John Stones Riyad Mahrez, who has scored six goals in his last 10 City appearances, could start on the right to leave the exceptionally-talented Leroy Sané on the bench as an impact-substitute option for Guardiola.

Gabriel Jesus put an end to his early-season goal drought with a hat-trick against Shakhtar on Wednesday but it would be a surprise if that feat displaces Sergio Aguero from the starting line-up, with the Argentine - who has netted eight times in nine games against United - having scored ten goals already this season.

Predicted XI:

Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy; Bernardo, Fernandinho, David Silva; Mahrez, Aguero, Sterling.
