Police arrest Owerri landlord, for killing tenant

Image
After going into one-week hiding, an Owerri landlord, Mr. Paul Oparaugo, who alongside his family stabbed his tenant, Udochukwu Iwuoha, to death, has been arrested by the Imo State Police Command.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Chris Ezike, said that Oparaugo was arrested alongside one of his sons, Ogbonna Victor in Owerri. Udochukwu was killed by the suspects when he protested the offensive smell into his room from a poultry owned by the landlord. Until the incident, the landlord, Oparaugo was a security officer in one of the new generation banks in Owerri, the state capital.

Residents were shocked to see Udochukwu lying in the pool of his blood, badly stabbed and abandoned in the building while the landlord and his family members took to their heels. According to Ezike, the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID) and the Owerri Urban Police Division worked together to achieve the feat. 'We're the only CREDIBLE superpower' EU chief lashes out at Trump with blistering attack

Image
Federica Mogherini blasted the US President over his isolationist approach and accused him of pursuing a global policy of “fear, protectionism and confrontation”. The Italian eurocrat, who did not directly name Mr Trump during her tirade, instead advocated a new “European way” of conducting international affairs that takes a more open approach. Her remarks demonstrate once more the dire state of relations between Brussels and Washington, which have become increasingly strained by the US President’s actions on the world stage. The latest stand-off between the pair is over the Iran nuclear deal, which Mr Trump is trying to back the US out of but which the EU insists is legally binding and cannot be broken. The Republican has already promised to withdraw his country from the Paris climate change accord in a huge snub to European leaders and officials who spent years brokering the deal with his predecessor Barack Obama. And EU officials have not forgotten some of the highly…

World War 3: US Navy continues war drills despite North Korea threatening a nuclear strike

Image
THE US Navy has started a series attack drills off the Korean Peninsula as Kim Jong-un threatens nuclear destruction, it has been revealed. The drills are to increase pressure on North Korea in a bid to make it give up its nuclear programme. But the rogue state claims it is a “rehearsal for war” and insiders think it could be preparing another missile launch in retaliation. Commander of US Pacific Air Force General Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy said North Korea is “truly a threat to us all”. He added: “Although countries like North Korea threaten regional peace and security, our allied air power must be ready to respond with rapid, lethal and overwhelming force to respond to preserve our interests.” A fleet of 40 ships led by the nuclear powered USS Ronald Reagan is holding the drills with South Korean ships to simulate a war with North Korea. North Korea has threatened the US with an “unimaginable” strike in response to the drills.

Togo: Deadly Protests in Togo Against President Faure Gnassingbe's Continued Rule

Image
The deaths came amid anti-government protests against planned constitutional reforms that would allow President Faure Gnassingbe to remain in office until 2030. His family has ruled the West African nation since 1968. Three people were shot dead in the country's second city, Sokode, and another was killed in the capital Lome, the government said on Wednesday. The violence later spread to several other cities in the north. The protests were triggered in part by the arrest of an imam on Monday in Sokode on charges of inciting his followers to violence.
Opposition parties refused to cancel demonstrations on Wednesday and said they would go ahead with protests also on Thursday, disregarding a government ban on weekday protests on security grounds. Wednesday was the first of two days of protests by the opposition demanding the reinstatement of Togo's original constitution, which they say would bar President Faure Gnassingbe from a fourth term in 2020. Since the first pr…
